In the early 80’s, IMC founders Jeff Becker and John Dyer were the main IT technical resources at a manufacturing firm that had just migrated from a Burroughs platform to the IBM System/38 and the BPCS 1.0 ERP software package. The ERP Implementation, one of the first BPCS installs outside of the System/36, was completed on time and within budget. Shortly after the BPCS install, the company was bought, sold and split up several times. The last time resulting in our positions being moved from Evansville, Indiana to Paragould, Arkansas. We were given the choice of following the company to Arkansas or finding employment elsewhere. In 1986, Jeff and John quickly formed IMC, Inc. and proceeded to oversee the IT issues of splitting the company into multiple entities.
At about the same time, IMC purchased the rights to the company’s in-house EDI software package that allowed the exchange of orders with the proprietary Sears SENDEN application. Improved and packaged for resale, it was the first to run on IBM’s System/38 and later the AS/400. With Sear’s recommendation, our Sears SENDEN EDI software package was sold to companies such as Nintendo, OshkKosh B’Gosh, and Clopay to name just a few.
By the early 90’s, We recognized that a more generic product was needed to manage the flow of data between the EDI translator software and business application databases. The EDI Toolkit was developed. The EDI Tool Kit is a robust and cost-effective architecture that resides as middleware between the translator product and the ERP system. It is not a stand alone product that runs “out of the box”, but rather a set of files and programs that form the foundation upon which your EDI process can be built. Over the years, the EDI Toolkit’s repository of programs and files has grown with each new client requirement.
